The project is about your
response to a base material which someone else has chosen for
you. In this instance, a detachable, pre-worn shirt collar.
The collar doesn't have
to remain collar-like, you might choose to rip, deconstruct it or add to it. Any
medium goes; dye, stain, rivet, bury in earth, paint, stitch, print..."
By October 2013, each of the ten artists involved in this year's Group Gathering project had received a shirt collar and were given six months to consider and create their response to it. The initial brief was simple in the hope that it would allow the artists to be as free with their interpretation as possible.
